2007: ST's Intro: very day, Ronnie delivers
fresh insights and informative commentary — not just about football,
but in all topics we discuss here, which is everything.
Today we learn about Ronnie, a dedicated UH fan and mother of our
youngest blog poster.
T’S SATURDAY!!!
Is it GAMETIME yet??!!!
FAMILY:
I was born in 1966. I was the 6th out of 7 children, and the first
girl. Needless to say, I was a tomboy. With the nickname of Ronnie and
four older brothers (I would have had five, but one brother died before
I was born), how could I be a girly girl? I went to Kainalu Elementary.
My favorite memories are not having to wear shoes and playing German
Dodge Ball every day in 5th grade. I went to Kamehameha from 7th- 12th
grade. My favorite memories were eating lunch in the “formal” setting
during intermediate, being in Mr. Bass’ class for US History and Law,
winning the co-ed Song Contest trophy in 11th grade (we were 3 points
away from perfect) and being in the marching band. I went to UH Manoa
for 1 year. I think I was in my mid 30s before I finally told my
parents the truth – that I didn’t quit college because I “was bored and
just wanted to take a break”, I had flunked out of school for not going
to class.
Thank goodness for trade school. I received my certificate as a
Computer Operator in 1987 (the school told me I was too young and a
female, so no company would hire me as a programmer) and got my first
job as a computer operator for a hospital. There’s nothing like
experiencing an earthquake from the basement of a medical building. In
the past 20 years I have been a developer - designing multi-dimensional
databases and reporting applications, a business analyst, a service
practice lead, and a regional vice president of services. I now work in
Information Security and love it.
I am a single mother of two boys. Ian is 16 (he was born at 3:16 AM and
since Ian is Scottish for John, his Bible verse is John 3:16) and Aaron
just turned 11 (Aaron was born at 4:16 AM and his Bible verse is Exodus
4:16). Aaron is very proud of being the youngest official Tsaiko
poster. I am truly blessed by them every day and am thankful that I get
to watch them grow and become men of character.
FOOTBALL:
I was introduced to football by my dad, who was a referee for Pop
Warner and High School games. I learned all about the penalties before
I learned about formations and strategy (other than to score more
points than the other team). When I was 13 years old, I won an NFL
football pool my dad was in charge of. We had to pick the winning teams
from the beginning of the playoffs through the Super Bowl. The tie
breaker was the total points scored during the Super Bowl.
I have been a fan of UH sports since the 90’s. My ex-husband was in the
Navy and we were stationed at Pearl Harbor. We lived in Navy housing in
Pearl City, but spent weekends at my parents’ house in Kailua. My dad
watched all of the football, basketball and men’s and women’s
volleyball games. I was hooked! Once we moved back to California, I was
able to watch the football games on Fox Sports West. I like learning
about the players and coaches as much as I like the action of the game.
I think this is going to be a special season and everyone who can see
this team in person should do so! The story of the football program
during the June Jones era is truly inspiring. I can’t wait to watch it
continue to unfold.
FELLOW TSAIKOS:
I have “met” such great people on this blog. I talk about all of you
like you are family, because you are. I am honored to be able to read
about your lives and your love, loyalty, and passion for Warrior
Football, and the Warriors themselves. I can’t wait to meet my fellow
Tsaikos before the Washington game!!
What a great outlet this blog is. I just want to thank all of you for
letting me be as Tsaiko about Warrior football as I want to.
