From the Warrior Beat blog May 12, 2010:
ST's Intro:
Slugger writes about the tireless Don Weir:

I had the pleasure of assisting Dr. Don Weir with Na Koa membership mailings, getting to know a bit about the person who moved through Na Koa with high energy. He now works with the UH Foundation office as a Gift Officer, but is still handling the away games’ festivities for 2010. Don is also very much involved in the UH Letterwinners Club, fundraising and feeding members at an annual BBQ.

#24, WR/DB - Don Weir came from San Diego, CA and played for UH in ‘71-‘73. He graduated with an undergraduate degree at UH and continued adding letters behind his name: Masters from San Diego St. U. and a PhD in Education from USC. Don’t worry! He’s rooting for UH in September. If you’d like to hear stories about who was on the field with him, you’ll have to invite him to a Cattle Call.

Don’s better half, Colleen, was introduced to him at a San Diego beach softball match. This year marks their 20th anniversary. Congratulations! The only ‘child’ they have is Maliko, a gorgeous chocolate Lab. Colleen works at the Lunalilo Home as the Director of Community Relations & Admissions. You might spot her on campus, as she’s working on her Masters at UH.

Dedicated? In the 1990’s, Don spent summers in Hawaii coaching Punahou’s JV defensive backs, as well as teaching summer school. He would fly back in February to work at the Punahou carnival. 2003-2005 would find him on the Punahou sidelines as an offensive coach. Don spent many years working in education: teaching, managing educational projects, and supporting educational programs. He was presented the 2006 Jonathan Tarr Foundation Humanitarian Award for his support of a program providing scholarships to San Diego County students in under-served populations.

Last little-known piece of trivia about Don: he raises orchids and is the family gardener.

Go up & say “Hi!” the next time you see him at a game or UH event. And don’t forget to invite him to the next Cattle Call.
