I’ve been a UH fan as long as I
can remember. My parents (aka A-House & Mrs. A-House), started
taking me to football games when I was 3 (I refused to be left at
grandma’s house any more). My mom says I was more interested in kicking
the chair in front of me or wanting the food other people brought than
watching the game. Somewhere along the line, I started paying attention
and have been a die-hard UH fan ever since.
My parents (who are the BEST, by the way) have had season tickets for
football for more than 30 years. We also watched a lot of baseball
(mostly during the Murakami era). Saw the Islanders play & Derek
Tatsuno pitch at Aloha Stadium. I remember going to the airport to get
autographs from the UH baseball team when they returned from the
College World Series in 1980. Sat in Klum Gym to watch the Wahine &
Men’s volleyball teams. Great times!
My first semester at UH was most memorable because my next door
neighbor in the dorms happened to be Jason Elam. Back then, the student
following at football games was awesome! Saw many games from the Super
Rooter section. I found the perfect on-campus job my freshman
year…working at Rainbow Stadium (later re-named Les Murakami Stadium).
What could be better than getting paid to watch baseball?
We also followed UH on the road. Got to see UH beat Illinois in the
1992 Holiday Bowl in San Diego. My dad & I went to see UH vs. UCLA
in the 1995 Men’s Volleyball Finals. We’ve traveled to Las Vegas (of
course), Reno & New Orleans to support the UH football team. Our
next destination is Gainesville.
My love of sports is not only for UH. My favorite pro teams are the
Lakers, 49ers & Dodgers. I also cheer for the Redskins (yes, even
before Colt) & the Cubs. Got to see the Baseball Hall of Fame
(Cooperstown, New York), Football Hall of Fame (Canton, Ohio) &
even the cornfield in Dyersville, Iowa, where the movie Field of Dreams
was filmed.
Other than sports, some of my favorite things include the Harry Potter
books, Netflix, 80’s music, chocolate, pizza, pancakes & Dairy
Queen cones and blizzards.
Many thanks to Stephen Tsai for creating and maintaining the Warrior
Beat. The Tsaikos I’ve met are truly the nicest, funniest, most
generous people I know.
