ST's Intro:
I've always liked Waipahu.
Remember when Waipahu High had the largest enrollment?
My cousins Rodney, Todd, Ward and Ford Kubo attended Waipahu High.
When I was a high school senior, I went to Waipahu High's prom.
Whatever happened to Vera Fujii?
My first new friend at UH, the Star-Bulletin's Nadine Kam, is a Waipahu
grad.
My cat's first vet is in Waipahu.
So, too, is my daughter's boyfriend, Aaron Bechard.
UH even used to recruit in Waipahu, although in the past 10 years it's
been just Lui Fuga and Rustin Saole.
And so, it's about time, Waipahu is represented. Tracy is everything
great about Waipahu — smart, funny, humble and family-oriented. She's
had wonderful posts the past couple of months. Here's her story:
Tidbit: I was born in Waikiki
on Boys' Day in 1971 in the old Kaiser Permanente Hospital (now the
Hawaii Prince Hotel sits on that site). How many people can say they
were born in Waikiki, right? Okay, okay my birth certificate says that
I was born in Honolulu! Haha! I’m part Filipino and Portuguese. I have
2 wonderful children (a boy and a girl)—I love them to death! I had my
daughter right out of high school. I never got to experience the
“College Life”…but I told myself when she turned 5, I would give it a
try. Guess what, my son is 10 and I am still without a degree (pitiful
,huh? I still plan on earning my degree someday—that’s a promise I made
to myself) Anyways, I attended a trade school in 1990 and I earned a
certificate in the Clerical field. I am currently working for the City
and County of Honolulu. I actually love it...love the people I work
with, I hate driving in the traffic, though, but who doesn’t, right! My
other half is Tim and we have been together since 2001. God bless him
since he has to put up with me. ; )
Early life: I’m the youngest of
six children, 4 girls and 2 boys. My grandparents helped my father
raise us kids. My mom and dad were separated when I was just a baby,
but they got back together when I was in the 6th or 7th grade. So
naturally, my Grandma became a mother figure to me. She is the
matriarch of the family. She always says, "I took care of you when you
were little and now you’re taking care of me." Did I mention she is
also a UH fan…Go Bows! As she would say.
Hometown: I grew up in Waipahu
my entire life. I graduated from Waipahu High School class of 1989 – Go
Marauders! I guess you can say I’m a true blue Waipahu girl. Before I
forget, I have to tell you don’t be afraid to visit Waipahu…ha! Hey,
unless you’re near the Intermediate, but that’s a whole nother story.
I’m just kidding folks! By the way, I tried living on the mainland, but
Hawaii called me back. Besides Colorado was just too cold! Ha!
Walking down Memory Lane: I
remember when Arakawa’s was still open. Speaking of which, I’ll tell
you a funny story…when I was a little girl my grandmother and I were
waiting outside on the bench. The bench was next to the enterance and
this soda machine. Well, this guy put money in the machine to buy a
drink. I thought I would help by pressing the button…well back then you
would either choose from RC, Orange Crush Soda, Pepsi or Tab. Guess
what, I pressed the button for Tab. Let me tell you this person gave me
the stinkest eye ever. I hid behind my Grams and needless to say, I
kept my fingers to myself ever since. Back then, Bigway Supermarket was
still open and the Waipahu Sugar Mill was still in operation…gosh, I
hated when the soot would mix when it rained…it would get everything
black and disgusting. I even remember when Dairy Queen and Highway
Supermarket were next door to St. Joseph Church. Wow that’s a long time
ago. LOL!
Warrior Football: I love
Warrior football! For the past several years, we have had some of the
most amazing players…from Noga, Pisa, Elam, Timmy, Rolo, Ashley, Owens,
Travis, McBriar, Nate, Ikaika to name a few. But the past two years has
been exceptionally special with Colt at the helm. He is such an
incredible player and person…Hawaii truly lucked out with that one.
Colt brings excitement to the field and with Grice-Mullins, Bess,
Hawthorne, Rivers and LWJ at his fingertips, the sky is the limit.
Gosh, the best is yet to come—if we get into a BCS Bowl game that would
be great and if we end up playing in the Hawaii Sheraton Bowl I would
love it just the same! GO WARRIORS! COLT FOR HEISMAN 2007!
