Morning Tsai-kos!!!
Stephen called me yesterday and told me my turn was up for the bio and
I automatically asked for more time. I'm used to writing about other
things, but this time it's about...me?

Here goes... My name is Liane Yim and I celebrated my "quarter of a
century" birthday a few weeks ago on a cruise off Florida. I have an
older sister, younger brother and great parents. My boyfriend can be
described in one word..."Amazing!"

I attended St. Theresa's for elementary, high school at Maryknoll, then
off to college at Oregon State University. Curtis Murayama (Advertiser
sports editor) and I have an intense rivalry going on because he is a U
of O alum. He even puts his Duck mascot items and raids my desk every
once in a while (not to mention the verbal jabs as well). I took a year
off from college and lived in Seattle before finishing my degree in
journalism at the University of Hawai‘i. I tested the waters for writing
at Kaleo newspaper and I remember walking into the building and meeting
sports editor Stephanie Nakasone...my first article was on the Hawaiian
Islanders football team. I loved writing profile/feature stories on
athletes because it was a chance to see their personalities. My
favorite interviewee: Tommy Heffernan (it was actually an article about
his sister). I've covered men's and women's volleyball, water polo,
basketball and football as well.

I met our comedic blog host Stephen Tsai about three years ago by
covering games and practices. I always thought his articles provided
the best details and would always ask him questions on how he got his
information. I would try to pick his brain to make my writing better.
Another mentor would be Cindy Luis from the Bulletin who helped me as
well.

I've been with The Advertiser for a year and several months in the TGIF
entertainment section. The best part about my job is knowing about
events before everyone else. On the weekends I bar hop and hang out
with Princess Leila, Stan, Loren and other buddies as well. (Princess
Leila just might post a picture of our "quadpod"...)

I love being a Tsai-ko and think we should get together more often!
I've had the pleasure and opportunity to meet with some of you at
previous functions. We're truly a unique bunch, don't you think?
